Defence and aerospace manufacturer Nibe Limited, based in Pune, has demonstrated its advanced long-range 120mm vehicle-mounted mortar system, Garudastra, to the Indian Army as part of a no-cost-no-commitment (NC-NC) evaluation at the Infantry School, Mhow, on Wednesday (June 17, 2026).
According to Nibe Limited, the trial highlighted the system’s rapid deployment ability, high rate of fire, Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) capability, and GPS and laser-guided munitions.
The trial began with a tactical shoot-and-scoot mission designed to simulate battlefield conditions. Garudastra got into a firing position in less than 30 seconds. The system then engaged its target with two rounds within 15 seconds before relocating from the firing position in under 15 seconds to evade simulated counter-battery fire. It then moved to a secondary position and successfully re-engaged the target with the same level of accuracy, it added.
The mortar system subsequently demonstrated its high-volume firepower, with a two-member crew firing 12 rounds within 60 seconds while maintaining accuracy. Another key highlight was the successful execution of an MRSI mission, during which three rounds were fired on different trajectories and flight paths, yet impacted the target simultaneously.
The demonstration culminated with the firing of a precision-guided munition capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 10 kilometres. Guided by GPS and laser systems, the round scored a direct hit on a 3-metre by 3-metre target, showcasing the weapon’s precision-strike capability.
The firm said that Garudastra is designed to provide accurate indirect fire support and also fields a 17-kg penetrating warhead capable of defeating reinforced concrete. The company said the successful demonstration reinforces its commitment to strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing through a strategic collaboration with its Israel-based OEM partners while supporting the Government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
