The Kerala State committee of the Indian National League (INL), a constituent of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), has said the statements and remarks of persons such as SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan had alienated minority communities from the front in the Assembly elections.
INL State president Ahammad Devarkovil and State general secretary Kassim Irikkoor told the media that the election results were also a reflection of the people’s anger against certain top leaders of the LDF. There had been an erosion of votes from the LDF in the Kozhikode South constituency, from where Mr. Ahammad Kovil had contested.
The INL leaders claimed that the LDF could not learn from the setbacks it suffered in the Lok Sabha election and the local body polls. The pro-UDF and anti-Left sentiments that influenced those elections became stronger during the Assembly polls. The LDF could not correct its course and regain the trust of the people. The front had deviated from its core Left and socialist values, which irked the cadre, they added.
