The Communist Party of India (CPI) district committee members staged a protest near the Gurazada Apparao statue at the RTC Complex on Monday, demanding an immediate rollback of the recent hike in petrol, diesel, CNG, and domestic gas prices.
Addressing the gathering, CPI district secretary SK. Rahiman criticised the Central government for steeply raising fuel prices by approximately ₹7.70 per litre through consecutive hikes following the five-State elections. He said that the continuous rise in fuel costs would burden the transport sector, leading to an inflation of essential commodities.
“The common man is already struggling to make ends meet. This present price hike has come as a severe blow,” Mr. Rahiman said.
He demanded that the Centre abolish excise duty on petroleum products and urged the State government waive VAT charges to provide relief to citizens. CPI leaders P. Chandrasekhar, M. Manmadha Rao, R. Srinivasa Rao, and others participated.
