Visakhapatnam Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Saturday directed officials to expedite the construction of approach roads connecting Visakhapatnam city to the Bhogapuram International Airport and finish it by the end of June.
During the review of the terminal construction, Mr. Kishore emphasised that all major road junctions must be built robustly, keeping future traffic growth and commuter safety in mind.
In a move to support passenger convenience and eco-friendly transit, he instructed authorities to set up dedicated charging stations within the airport premises for the battery-operated vehicles to be operated by the APSRTC.
He urged the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department to accelerate the road works, while urging the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to swiftly finish development projects within its limits.
Additionally, officials were told to complete the installation of streetlights along these corridors and to coordinate closely with the Forest Department to resolve any pending issues immediately.
Following the meeting, the Collector personally inspected the airport interiors and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower.
