Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged the State government to establish a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) division headquartered at Tiruchi so as to operate buses in an efficient manner.

Calling on Minister for Transport A. Vijay Tamizhan Parthiban at Chennai a few days ago to press his demand in person, Mr. Durai Vaiko said he had explained to him the need of creating a separate division in Tiruchi. The region was currently functioning under the Kumbakonam Division of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. The population of Tiruchi was growing as a major commercial hub, education, industry and healthcare. It had been a leading tourism destination of the State. A large number of tourists were visiting Tiruchi from different parts of the country. Due to this, the need for public transport was also increasing day by day.

The MP said that Tiruchi was the only city in the State with a population of more than 10 lakh that did not have a dedicated transport division headquarters. It had led to significant delays in administrative decisions including the creation of new bus routes, allocation of buses, vehicle management and service expansion. He had made a similar demand with S.S. Sivashankar when he was the Transport Minister in the previous DMK government.

Mr. Durai Vaiko said that he had also presented a petition with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay when he met him recently. The demand was being emphasised for a long time. Hence, it was important that the State government establish a separate division headquartered at Tiruchi. It would help the officials to operate services to all areas efficiently. It would enable the officials to take decisions quickly. Mr. Vijay had assured that he would consider the demand.
