The Tamil Nadu Cottage and Micro Entrepreneurs’ Association (TACT) that raised and gave ₹2.51 lakh to the family of one of its members M.K. Gunasekaran who passed away recently has urged the Tamil Nadu government to constitute a welfare board for micro enterprises.
This was one of the resolutions passed at the general council meeting of the Association held in Coimbatore on Friday. The Board should have micro industry owners and their workers as members and should extend financial support to the families of the members who die in industrial accidents or due to natural causes.
With the livelihoods of entrepreneurs who undertake job-work orders severely affected due to poor flow of orders and irregular payments, there are several instances of the micro entrepreneurs suffering from severe stress. They have purchased machinery using loans from banks and private financial institutions and their families are under immense financial stress if the entrepreneur dies, the Association said.
