Passengers at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will be getting more options to dine and shop at the airport as restaurants, bars and retail outlets are set to double in the next five years.

KIA, which is south India’s busiest airport and the third largest in the country, at present offers many food and beverage (F&B) and retail experience at its two terminals and kerbside. With the airport set for expansion, more outlets would be added.

Around metro stations

“The Terminal T-2 phase 2 planning is going on, The Quad area is getting re-imagined, the metro rail is coming up, there are experiences planned around the metro station as well. In the next five years we are coming up with more than 200 outlets in the retail and F&B space,” Pravat Paikray, Vice President – Commercial, Bangalore International Airport Ltd., told The Hindu.

He added that, at present, there are 200 outlets in both the terminals and many iconic international brands along with local ones would be added in the next five years.

“We will be bringing in international iconic brands like we did for T-2 phase 1 along with local brands,” he added.

First time in India

Mr. Paikray said that many international brands like Wolfgang Puck Kitchen and Bar, Giraffe World Kitchen, Jims Martin Kitchen, Jamie Oliver’s Pizzeria, PF Chang, Jones the Grocer, Carluccio’s and La Madeleine Express set shop for the first time in India at the airport.

“Now some brands may have opened elsewhere, but we got it for the first time in India. There are many Tim Horton’s in India but what we have got here is a Tim Horton’s innovation cafe. Now we are getting Starbuck Reserve at the Bengaluru airport,” Mr. Paikray said.

Local brands

“On one side we have these international iconic brands. On the other side we always believe it is our duty to promote the local brands and local heroes so we are the only place in the world where next to a luxury brand like Chanel there is a local brand called Forest Essentials next door. If there is a pan-Asian restaurant called PF Chang next to it we have a south indian restaurant,” he added.
