Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has spoken out, for the first time, about the row over the bungalow occupied by Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rabri Devi. Without naming the former Chief Minister, he said that she would have to vacate the bungalow at any cost.

Addressing a public meeting during the Sahyog Camp in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), Mr. Choudhary asserted that it was not a monarchy in which the mother wanted one house, and the son desired another.

On May 29, 2026, the Building Construction Department (BCD) issued a second notice to Ms. Devi to vacate the 10, Circular Road bungalow, which had been allotted to Dairy and Fisheries Minister Nand Kishor Ram.

On May 31, 2026, BCD gave her a 15-day ultimatum to vacate the bungalow, which is located close to 1, Anne Marg, now renamed as Lok Sevak Awas, the official residence of the Chief Minister. BCD has allotted 39, Harding Road bungalow to Ms. Devi, who has refused to vacate her current residence and challenged the State government to evict her using police force.

“Some people think their house will not be vacated. It will definitely be vacated. No one on this earth can stop it. No living soul can stop it,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Choudhary, who first attended the Sahyog Camp in Sheikhpura, took a dig at the Lalu Prasad family. He asserted that a bungalow was no one’s ancestral entitlement.

“People have become very attached to bungalows. The son wants a separate house, and the mother wants a separate house. Some people are only concerned with ensuring that their own homes remain secure. I served as a Minister on several occasions — even becoming the Home Minister of Bihar; yet I lived in a residence spanning just 2,400 square feet,” he said.

“When I moved into the Chief Minister’s official residence, I gave instructions to rename it Lok Sevak Awas. This is the residence of a public servant. No one holds an exclusive, hereditary claim to the CM house. I became a Minister in 1999, and this is the 11th residence I have had. The day I will be told that my work is over here, I will pack my bags and will shift to my private house,” he added.

On Monday, RJD national general secretary Abdul Siddiqui had claimed that Mr. Choudhary’s bungalow was even larger than the Prime Minister’s residence, and that he had also merged 5, Desh Ratna Marg, formerly designated for the Deputy Chief Minister, into the CM’s residence.

Meanwhile, BCD Minister Lesi Singh met former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in this connection. Following the meeting, Ms. Singh said that she had provided Mr. Kumar with all the details of the situation.

Asked about Ms. Devi’s refusal to vacate the bungalow, Ms. Singh said that she would have to vacate and shift to the newly allotted house on Harding Road.
