Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil ended his fast-unto-death post-midnight on Sunday (May 31, 2026) after Maharashtra government representatives handed over a 12-point proposal to him in connection with Maratha reservation. He has demanded the formation of a Ministry for the community.

“The government has agreed to some of the demands, including issuance of [Kunbi caste] certificates based on the 58 lakh Kunbi records identified,with the documents to be displayed at village gram panchayat offices, and action against officials who deny the certificates,” Mr. Jarange Patil said.

Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who heads the Cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation, and BJP MLC Prasad Lad met Mr. Jarange Patil on Saturday (May 30) at Antarwali Sarati, his native village in Jalna district, in an attempt to convince him to withdraw his indefinite hunger strike.

Late in the night on Sunday (May 31), Mr. Jarange Patil gave a one-month deadline to the government to fulfil the 12-point proposal, which includes the withdrawal of FIR against Maratha reservation protesters and a direction to divisional commissioners to implement the reservation.

Other demands include the implementation of Satara, Aundh and other gazettes and the validation of issued caste certificates.

After he ended the fast, Mr. Jarange Patil was taken to a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for a health checkup. This was Mr. Jarange’s ninth hunger strike in the last three years.
