The owner of a parcel of patta land has been penalised for dumping granite and quartz waste on his patta land abutting a lake here in Nalaganakothapalli village in Koneripalli panchayat in Shoolagiri.

The action follows a report published in The Hinduon the dumping of the waste on the parcel of wetland. The dumping was against the National Green Tribunal orders, cautioning against dumping of hazardous waste on the pretext of ownership of land.

Following the report, Shoolagiri Block Development Officer was instructed to serve notices on the owner, Rakesh Bandari, who had been dumping waste on his wetland, which also shared a bund with a lake. The owner was fined ₹50,000, which was also paid up. Further, according to the administration, action is being taken by Koneripalli panchayat.
