A 48-year-old farmer was injured after a few strangers opened fire at him with a country-made pistol at Valayapatti near Kadavur on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Karunaigiri of the same village.
According to sources, the suspects opened fire at Mr. Karunaigiri when he was walking in a forest area. The assailants fired pellets from a country -made pistol. The farmer sustained injuries on his hip and backside. The assailants fled the spot.
The local people, who came to know of the firing, rushed to the spot and admitted Karunaigiri to a hospital in Dindigul. On information, the Palaviduthi police rushed to the spot and conducted inquires.
Karur Superintendent of Police D.N. Harikiran told The Hindu that pellets had been fired at the victim. He was stable. Special teams had been formed to identify the assailants and the motive behind it. Three suspects had been picked up for questioning. The perpetrators would be arrested soon.
