A worker at a private estate in Maramalai in Kanniyakumari district sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant.
Police identified the injured man as G. Ravi, 47, from Pudukottai. He was staying at the estate, where he was employed.
According to police, he had stepped out of the workers’ shed to attend nature’s call when a wild elephant attacked him and tore his abdomen with his tusks, causing grievous injuries. Hearing his cries for help, fellow workers rushed to the spot, alerted emergency services and took him to the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital.
He subsequently underwent surgery at the hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable now.
