As their protest refusing to accept the body of the deceased Manamadurai youth, Akash Delison, the victim of custodial torture, entered the 79th day, his parents and relatives submitted a petition to Sivaganga District Collector K. Porkodi, demanding the arrest of those responsible for his death.
Akash Delison, a Scheduled Caste youth, and another individual, Guna, of Krishnarajapuram area of Manamadurai, were arrested by police on the night of March 5 in connection with a case involving hacking of two labourers.
Following the arrest, the police stated that Akash suffered a fracture in his leg while attempting to escape from them and was admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, where he passed away on March 8 after failing to respond to treatment.
However, alleging that Akash died due to police torture and assault, his relatives have been protesting since March 8, refusing to accept his body.
Meanwhile, the CB-CID police have started investigating the case. Six police personnel, including an Inspector and a Sub-Inspector, have been suspended in connection with the death of the youth.
Following the recent change in government, Akash’s parents Rajesh Kannan and Anandhavalli, along with their relatives, submitted a petition to the Collector, demanding the arrest of the police personnel responsible for his death.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Anandhavalli said, “The CB-CID police have not arrested those responsible for his death so far. We submitted the petition urging swift action. We want justice for my son’s death. We have faith that the new government will provide justice.”
