Though 36 days have passed since an ATM robbery occurred in Yellareddypet of Rajanna Sircilla district, the sensational case still remains unresolved. Notwithstanding the strenuous efforts by the police to crack the case, a breakthrough still eludes the investigators.

In the wee hours of April 11, robbers barged into an unmanned ATM kiosk of a nationalised bank near the bus stand in Yellareddypet, uprooted the machine using a four-wheeler and fled with it in the same vehicle.

They decamped with ₹6.05 lakh cash in the ATM, abandoning the main components of the machine in a nearby village.

The robbers reportedly sped away in the vehicle towards Maharashtra after committing the crime.

The police swiftly launched an intensive investigation into the sensational robbery case by deploying multiple teams to trace the robbers. However, the ATM robbery case still remains unresolved.

Following the incident, the district police officials held a meeting with the bank officials and other stakeholders to strengthen security measures at the ATMs to prevent crimes.

A string of ATM robberies in the neighbouring States, including one each in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra in the recent past, bore a striking similarity to the Yellareddypet ATM robbery, sources said.

We are pursuing the ATM robbery case from all angles and tracking different leads to crack it, Yellareddypet Circle Inspector of Police Venkatesh told The Hindu, when contacted.

The modus operandi in the May 6 ATM robbery in Dharmavaram of Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district and a similar crime reported in Maharashtra’s Solapur district recently bears striking similarity with the Yellareddypet ATM robbery. We are in touch with the police in the neighbouring States and coordinated efforts are underway to trace the culprits, he added.
