The annual ‘Gangamma Jatara’ began in Chittoor on Tuesday, with major junctions such as Bazar Street, Santhapeta, Doddipalle, and Kongareddipalle coming alive in bright festive colours. The festival signals the start of one of the region’s most widely observed folk traditions.
The customary ‘Chatimpu’, a public announcement marking the formal opening of the festival, was performed in the morning. From May 5 (Tuesday) until the conclusion of the Jatara, devotees will dress in different traditional attire each day and offer prayers to goddess Gangamma Thalli in their respective localities across Chittoor city.
