The Land Price Determination Advisory Committee has recommended a compensation of ₹2.70 crore per acre to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for 120 acres of land in two villages of Channarayapatna hobli in Devanahalli taluk, where landowners have voluntarily agreed to part with their land for industrial development.

This is said to be the highest compensation being proposed for farm land acquisition in the State. The committee arrived at the decision at a joint meeting of officials and landowners held in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

This comes even as farmers’ resistance to land acquisition for the Bidadi Township Project is picking up steam.

No forced acquisition

The State government had, on July 15, 2025, cancelled the forced acquisition of 1,777 acres of farm land spread over 13 villages of Channarayapatna hobli, Devanahalli taluk, for Phase-2 of the Aerospace Park after the farmers put up a stiff resistance by staging a dharna for 1,198 days.

However, while shelving the land acquisition plan, the government stated that there was no bar on those who wanted to voluntarily give their land.

Accordingly, now, some farmers have offered to give their land voluntarily, following which the KIADB has initiated the process of acquisition.

To Board for approval

KIADB Special Deputy Commissioner A.N. Raghunandan, who presided over Wednesday’s meeting, told farmers that the recommendation would now be placed before the KIADB Board for approval. He added that landowners who do not wish to receive monetary compensation would have the option of obtaining 10,781 square feet of developed land in the industrial area for every acre of agricultural land given by them.

He stated that the farmers had voluntarily consented to the acquisition of their land and that a final notification under the provisions of the KIADB Act had been issued on June 16 and published in the official gazette for the acquisition of their lands. He said the compensation recommended is the highest ever offered in the Devanahalli region and reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation for affected farmers.

Sources in the government said some farmers, who had opted for developed land instead of monetary compensation, in the Devanahalli area in the earlier land acquisition episodes, had seen a rapid increase in the prices of developed land now. This had enthused some farmers to consider the offer voluntarily, sources claimed.
