OC Iyengars and Iyers recorded the highest incidence of child marriages in Telangana at 21.2%, and OC Jains at 11%, according to the Socio, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste Survey (SEEEPC).
The survey notes that these figures are significantly higher than the State average of 5%, which translates to approximately 2.16 lakh girls below the age of 18 being married in Telangana. The proportion among Iyengars and Iyers is more than five times the State average, while that among Jains is more than double.
