The parents of a Class X student who was allegedly assaulted by a teacher at a private school in Coimbatore petitioned the District Collector on Monday seeking speedy action in the case, alleging that no progress had been made despite the registration of an FIR nearly three months ago.

In the petition, C. Manickaraj, the student’s father, alleged that the police had shown partiality in the investigation and sought the Collector’s intervention to ensure a fair probe. The case pertains to allegations that a mathematics teacher assaulted the student on March 1, resulting in injuries that later required hospitalisation and surgery.

The Peelamedu police registered a case against the teacher on March 27 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act following an inquiry by the Child Welfare Committee.

Separately, a group of students has petitioned the District Collector seeking action against an educational institution in Kinathukadavu, alleging that it has been offering courses without the required approvals and functioning in violation of University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.

The students alleged that their admissions were not registered under the Education Management Information System (EMIS), leaving their academic status unrecognised in official records. They also raised concerns over the validity of certificates issued by the institution and alleged irregularities in the conduct of classes and examinations.

Stating that they had submitted multiple representations since July 2025 and that an official inspection had been conducted, the students sought immediate intervention from the district administration, claiming that the issue remained unresolved.
