The Kerala High Court has held that the authorities concerned must make every effort to ensure that an elephant named KM1, which has been found in the vicinity of the Aralam Farm and the adjoining tribal areas and has a history of attacking people, is monitored and does not cause any “mishap”.
A Division Bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice Easwaran S. went on to remind the authorities that every life is precious and that people must be protected through “strict control and surveillance”. The court was hearing a plea filed by one Baiju Paul Mathews, raising concerns about the elephant roaming in the area.
The matter has been posted for hearing on May 20.
