The Telangana government has constituted a high-level committee to identify “Telangana Udyamakarulu” (Those who made sacrifices during the Telangana agitation), who participated in various phases of the Telangana statehood movement and recommend suitable measures to honour their contributions and sacrifices.
The committee will be headed by Advisor to the Government on Public Relations and Education K. Keshava Rao. Other members include Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC M. Kodandaram, MLC and Government Whip Addanki Dayakar, former MLC S. Ramulu Naik, and Mothe Shoban Reddy.
The Secretary to the Government (Political), General Administration Department, will serve as the convenor of the committee. The Government Order noted that several activists were martyred during the agitation, while many others suffered injuries, faced criminal cases, and imprisonment during the movement.
The panel has been tasked with evolving criteria for identifying Telangana movement activists, preparing a comprehensive list of eligible persons, and recommending the type of recognition, honours, courtesies, and facilities to be extended to them.
The government order stated that the committee would have powers to call officials, seek information, and hold meetings with concerned persons and departments as part of its proceedings. The committee has been instructed to submit its report at the earliest.
