A fan of actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, R. Pradeep, 29, was assaulted for lodging a police complaint over the organisers not playing songs from the movies of the actor during a cultural programme at a temple function at Alanganallur in Madurai district on Wednesday (May 27, 2026).

The police said during the function at Sangili Karuppasamy Temple, a cultural programme was organised. Mr. Pradeep wanted the organisers to play songs from actor Vijay-starrer movies on Sunday (May 24). However, as his demand was not fulfilled, he made a call to Madurai District Police control room.

Angered over this, a group of youths picked a quarrel with Mr. Pradeep and attacked him at Azhapuri.

The complainant sustained head injuries and his gold chain was snatched. He was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.

The police have booked five persons, including V. Kanagaraj, for rioting and assault.
