The first phase of house listing in the city, part of the preliminary process for Census-2027, has reached the final stage and will conclude on May 30, GVMC Additional Commissioner and City Census Officer D.V. Ramana Murthy said. He said 97% of the house listing process had been completed so far within Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits.

“As many as 9,13,650 houses have been recorded. We have identified over 1.47 lakh vacant houses where construction has been completed but no one is residing, along with 37,358 locked houses,” he said. Many houses might have remained locked because residents had left town during the summer holidays, he added.

He said only the identification and listing of houses were being carried out in this first phase. The actual population enumeration and collection of individual details would be done during the second phase, scheduled for February 2027.

The Additional Commissioner asked residents who feel their house details have not been registered, owners of vacant houses and those whose houses remain locked to contact their nearest Ward Secretariat or the GVMC head office. They can also call the helpline 9014218870 and give details of their area, and Census staff will visit their houses and collect the required information.
