A.P. Ranganatha, former president, Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, has written to the Chief Justice of India, appealing to him to take suo motu cognisance of the “continuing constitutional breakdown arising from non-conduct of the Local Body Elections in Karnataka.”
In the letter, he points to the delay in holding civic polls in Bengaluru and the recent letter by the State government to the State Election Commission, Karnataka, expressing its inability to conduct elections within the Supreme Court-set June 30, 2026, deadline, due to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision and National Census – 2027.
