IG Visakha Range Gopinath Jatti conducted a comprehensive review meeting on the progress and control of Narcotics Drugs (NDPS) with the Superintendent of Police (SPs) of the five districts – Anakapalli, ASR, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram Manyam under the range here on Friday, through video conference.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Jatti issued orders to conduct investigations into the financial transactions and assets of those involved in the ganja cases. As part of the process of attaching the illegal assets of the accused, freezing and attachment orders have been issued against 18 accused in 19 cases so far, worth approximately Rs 11.63 crore. He also said that PIT NDPS proposals have been issued against 114 accused and 32 of them have been sent to jail so far. The IG also added that between June 2024 to April 2026, the police department worked effectively to convict 129 accused in 72 cases under the Range.
The IG also directed the officials to implement a 100- day action plan to completely eradicate the supply and use of drugs. The action plan should be implemented in five phases, covering various aspects including enforcement drives, awareness campaigns etc. By the end of the 100-day programme, as many as 1,000 drug free villages should be recognised, he said.
