Two persons were arrested for alleged assault, following a quarrel in Secretariat Colony.
The police said M. Gopinath, 30, a resident of Sandhyappan Main Street in Nammalwarpet, worked as a car driver. On Friday night, Gopinath, along with his friends Venkatesan and Parthiban, went to a tea shop on Othavadai Street, where an argument broke out between them and the tea shop owner, Arumugam.
According to the police, Arumugam and his friend Nagaraj verbally abused the trio and attacked them with a reaper stick.
Mohanraj, a friend of Gopinath who attempted to intervene, was also assaulted. The accused allegedly threatened the victims before fleeing the spot.
Gopinath and Parthiban were treated at Periyar Nagar Government Hospital
Based on a complaint lodged by Gopinath at the Secretariat Colony police station, the police arrested Nagarajan, 49, and Arumugam, 57, both residents of Ramalingapuram. The reaper stick used in the assault was seized.
