Nominations of 34 out of 188 candidates, who had filed their papers to contest from seven Assembly constituencies in Virudhunagar district, were rejected on Tuesday.
Till the last day of filing nominations on Monday, a total of 250 nominations filed by 188 candidates were received.
On Tuesday, the officials took up scrutiny of papers. On completing the process, the candidature of 154 persons were accepted and that of 34 persons were rejected.
Most number of rejections of nine candidates was in Sivakasi Assembly constituency, followed by seven in Srivilliputtur (Reserved) Assembly constituency, and five each in Virudhunagar and Aruppukottai constituencies.
However, nominations of official candidates of all political parties have been accepted in the district.
Most of the rejected nominations were that of the dummy candidates of the political parties. Incomplete affidavits were the major reason for rejection of the nominations.
As of now, Aruppukottai and Tiruchuli Assembly seats have 26 candidates and Rajapalayam and Sattur have 25 candidates each.
The last day of withdrawal of nominations is April 9.
