A 19-year-old youth was killed and four others were injured after a lorry knocked them down on Tiruchi - Chidambaram national highway at Poovalur near Lalgudi in the district on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as M. Abinesh of Keelarasur village.
Police sources said Abinesh along with a group of people was undertaking a ‘padayatra’ to Samayapuram Arulmigu Mariamman temple when the incident occurred.
A Karur-bound lorry knocked down Abinesh and four others from behind. Abinesh was killed on the spot. The injured were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchi. The Lalgudi police are investigating.
