Iran and Israel said on Monday (June 8, 2026) that hostilities between them had halted, after the two countries exchanged strikes that threatened to reignite the West Asia war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the “fire on that front is contained” hours after Tehran said it had stopped its military action.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who started the war in lockstep, want different things. Mr. Trump had publicly warned Israel not to strike Beirut in its war with Iran-backed Hezbollah militants. When it did, on Sunday (June 7, 2026), Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire. Israel then struck Iran, with which Mr. Trump has been engaged in weeks of high-stakes negotiations.
Iran and Israel fired at each other on Monday (June 8, 2026) while Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a missile at Israel and threatened to disrupt Red Sea shipping. It’s the most serious escalation since a ceasefire began two months ago and threatens to plunge West Asia back into war.

An Israeli strike killed five people in the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon on Monday, Lebanon’s health ministry said, as Israel vowed to persist with its attacks on Hezbollah despite threats from Iran.

Israel says intercepted 'suspicious aerial target from Yemen'
Israel’s military said early in the morning it had intercepted an aerial target from Yemen, but there were no injuries.
“A suspicious aerial target from Yemen was intercepted. The incident has concluded. No injuries were reported,” the IDF said, adding that the incident occurred in the region of Eilat.

That triggered another round of Iranian missiles, before Tehran announced it would cease fire.
