Officials of the Customs Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) on Monday seized six gold biscuits weighing 600 grams found beneath the wash basin of a lavatory in a IndiGo flight that landed here from Singapore.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding smuggling of gold in the Singapore- Tiruchi IndiGo flight, Customs officers of the AIU conducted intensive surveillance and a thorough search of the aircraft immediately after its arrival.
The officers along with an airport staff examined the aircraft meticulously including the lavatory. The search led to the recovery of six gold biscuits valued at ₹92.53 lakh from the aircraft lavatory. The gold biscuits were found concealed and wrapped in a black coloured tape in an attempt to evade detection. The smuggled gold biscuits were seized.
The Commissioner of Customs, Tiruchi Bharat Prakash felicitated airport staff S. Vetrivel in recognition of his valuable assistance and contribution to the successful seizure of the gold biscuits, a press release said.
