A week after the daylight armed robbery at PMJ jewellery shop in Karimnagar, the Karimnagar police have almost cracked the sensational robbery case by detaining two members of the inter-State gang in West Bengal.

According to sources, a special police team traced one of the key members of the gang to West Bengal and apprehended him along with a receiver of a part of the stolen jewellery on Sunday (May 10, 2026).

They are being brought to Karimnagar for questioning to track down the remaining accused in the robbery case. However, the police have not yet confirmed it. 

The gold jewellery heist case hogged headlines as the five-armed robbers opened fire injuring four employees of the jewellery shop, before decamping with gold jewellery, weighing around 1.6 kg, in Karimnagar on May 3, 2026.

This has prompted the police to launch a massive manhunt and send multiple police teams to Maharashtra, Bihar and a few other States to trace the five absconding accused.

The five members of the gang reportedly stayed in private lodges in Peddapalli and Dharmapuri in the erstwhile composite Karimnagar district for a few days before committing the armed robbery at the jewellery shop in Karimnagar. The gang carried out the meticulously planned robbery after conducting recce for several days.

The police obtained vital clues about the accused from the CCTV footage at the crime spot and a motorcycle as well as a smashed mobile phone, which the accused reportedly abandoned near Dharmapuri before fleeing with the booty.
