Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Wednesday said that measures would be taken to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Union Territory during the second term of the National Democratic Alliance government in Puducherry.
Shortly after assuming charge, the Chief Minister said during the first tenure, the “double engine” (reference to same party / alliance government in the Centre and in the Union Territory) government has placed Puducherry “firmly on the path of progress.” The government would now work towards accelerating the economic growth by initiating several programmes, he said.
Besides taking measures to provide targeted welfare assistance to the poor and food security, the government would set up a Special Purpose Vehicle called the “Puducherry Rejuvenation of Infrastructure and Development Enterprise” or ‘PRIDE’ to initiate development of roads and sewage networks, rejuvenate water supply systems and strengthen livelihood projects.
Filling up 939 posts
Towards realising the development goals, the Chief Minister said he has taken 17 decisions on the first day of assuming office. Approval was given for the conduct of combined recruitment examinations at graduate, senior secondary and secondary levels for filling up 939 posts in the current financial year. Sanction was given for the upgrade and strengthening of the Puducherry Examination Authority and establishment of ‘Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Administrative Training Institute, a release here said.
Another major decision taken was towards the utilisation of 750-odd acres of government land available at Sedarapet - Karasur Industrial Estate. The Chief Minister said approval was given for allotment of land inside the estate for establishment of a satellite campus and research centre of IIT-Madras and a multi-organ transplant centre-cum-trauma care unit of Jipmer with air ambulance facility.
Land for IT Park
A nod was also given to transfer the land belonging to the Anglo French Textiles Limited to the Directorate of Industries and Commerce for industrial development and setting up of an IT park.
The government would roll out Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 from July 1 to provide guaranteed wage employment for up to 125 days. The government has also sanctioned construction of 108 km of roads in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the release said.
