Following the victory of Vijay of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the general elections held in Tamil Nadu, leaders of the YSR Congress Party joined the celebrations of the Tamil population in the border district on Monday.

Pointing to the campaign launched by N. Chandrababu Naidu, president of the Telugu Desam Party, in the Telugu-speaking pockets of Tamil Nadu in support of the NDA Alliance, the YSRCP leaders called it not just a defeat for the AIADMK alliance, but also the larger NDA, in which the TDP is a partner.
