Belated summer showers in parts of Coimbatore district and surroundings on Thursday has led to expectations among the farming community about continuity of the spell to tide over dry conditions.

Rainfall was reported during the evening hours at Mettupalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam, and Somanur.

Unlike last year, when the summer showers at the start of April eased the drinking water situation in the district, this time around, the delay has placed the Water Resources Department in a spot of bother.
