In an effort to improve access to healthcare services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Mysuru has opened a dedicated counter for patients aged above 60 years and differently abled individuals.

Director B. Dinesh said the special counter had been introduced to facilitate faster registration and reduce waiting time for vulnerable patients visiting the institute.

The hospital receives nearly 800 outpatients every day, many of whom arrive from distant places as early as 6 a.m. A considerable number of visitors are elderly patients and persons with disabilities, making the dedicated facility necessary to ensure easier access and convenience, he said, during his recent visit to hospital.

Dr. Dinesh also directed engineers to improve amenities for patients waiting outside the hospital by creating covered spaces to protect them from rain and harsh weather and by providing additional seating arrangements.

He inspected the proposed site for a new 200-bed block estimated to cost ₹180 crore. The foundation stone for the project is expected to be laid by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in August, following which construction work is expected to begin. The hospital plans to complete the project within 24 months, he added.

The director also inspected the hospital canteen and stressed the importance of maintaining food quality, hygiene and cleanliness, and said the facility caters to a large number of patients and attendants every day.

He also instructed staff to ensure cleanliness across the hospital premises and emphasised the need for courteous and patient-friendly services.

Several doctors, engineers and hospital officials were present during the visit.
