Sharanappa S.D., Police Commissioner of Kalaburagi, on Friday urged students to ensure that their education contributes not only to personal growth but also to the development of the nation.

Addressing students after inaugurating the two-day “Gyanotsav-2026” techno-cultural fest at Sharanbasava University, Mr. Sharanappa said students should not restrict their education merely to personal advancement or the welfare of their families and society.

“My sincere request to students is that your education should ultimately help the country,” he said.

The Police Commissioner said the festival would inspire students to become better individuals and described the event as a symbol of happiness, friendship, unity, mutual love and harmony.

He urged students to develop extraordinary vision and ambition to secure good careers. Students should always strive to turn their dreams into reality and demonstrate their abilities through academic excellence, he said.

Noting that several stalls that were set up showcasing innovation and marketing ideas as part of the festival provided students opportunities to learn new concepts and skills, the officer advised students to think broadly and aspire to become global leaders, innovators, researchers, teachers, engineers and doctors.

“Do not limit yourselves to only ‘me and my family’. Time is extremely valuable and should not be wasted unnecessarily,” he told students.

The Police Commissioner also appealed to the audience to strictly follow traffic rules and always wear helmets and seat belts.

The university campus witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members during the festival, with various activities and stalls adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

The event was inaugurated by Doddappa Appaji, the ninth mahadasoha peethadhipati of Sharanbasaveshwar Sansthan. The programme was held in the presence of Dakshayini Avvaji, president of Sharanbasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha and Chancellor of Sharanbasava University.

Sangha secretary Basavaraj Deshmukh, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anilkumar Bidve, Registrar Ms. Lakshmi Patil Maka, director Prof. V.D. Maitri, Registrar (Evaluation) Mr. S.H. Honnalli, Dean Mr. Shivakumar Javalagi and Finance Officer Mr. Kiran Maka, Deans, heads of departments, professors and students of various departments participated in the programme.
