Salem district registered 114.30 mm of rainfall on Wednesday (June 17, 2026), and a school building was damaged in a lightning strike.
On Wednesday around 4 p.m., rain lashed various parts of the district. Rain poured heavily in rural areas for a few hours. In a lightning strike, the building of the government boys’ school at Gangavalli was slightly damaged. Following the incident, the teachers shifted the students from the building.
In the past 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. on Thursday (June 18, 2026), Salem district registered 114.30 mm of rainfall, including 33 mm in Kariyakovil Valavu, 23 mm in Attur, 18 mm in Gangavalli, 17 mm in Nathakarai, 15 mm in Veeraganoor, 3.8 mm in Mettur, 3 mm in Yercaud, and 1.5 mm at the Collectorate.
