Universal and Illumination have officially unveiled Not Alone, a new animated feature set for release on April 16, 2027, with Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez leading the voice cast.

The announcement was made during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where the studio also revealed the film’s first poster. Chalamet had teased the news on social media a day earlier, hinting at a space-themed project before the official reveal.

The film marks Chalamet’s first leading role in a feature-length animated movie. He will voice Joe, a reserved rocket mechanic who becomes involved in a groundbreaking space mission. Gomez stars as Fran, a scientist developing an innovative rocket powered by plant-based technology.

According to the film’s synopsis, Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the launch of the experimental spacecraft. While sparks begin to fly between them, their personal and professional lives are thrown into chaos when three mischievous alien fugitives unexpectedly arrive and seek refuge with Joe.

The extraterrestrial trio—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—are searching for a way home while evading an overzealous intergalactic law officer named Zandro. The aliens soon identify Fran’s rocket as their best chance of escaping, setting the stage for a cosmic adventure that blends romance, comedy, and science fiction.

The supporting voice cast includes Brett Goldstein, Allison Janney, Lamorne Morris, Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou.

Not Alone is directed by Illumination veteran Eric Guillon alongside Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. Guillon has played a key role in shaping the studio’s visual identity, contributing to franchises including Despicable Me, Minions, Sing, and The Secret Life of Pets.

The project is being produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri.

The announcement adds another major title to Chalamet’s growing slate, while Gomez continues to balance film projects with her acclaimed television work on Only Murders in the Building.
