The TDP-led NDA government has focused on improving both the quality and reach of healthcare services in government hospitals over the past two years, resulting in higher staff attendance and better overall performance, according to Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav.

Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Saturday (June 13), the Minister released an eight-page report outlining the administration and achievements of government hospitals to mark the completion of two years of the government.

Presenting key achievements, Mr. Yadav said attendance among doctors and other hospital staff increased by 28.13%, rising from 65.36% in 2023-24 to 83.75% in 2025-26.

He said the number of surgical procedures performed in government hospitals rose by 37.38%, from 15.13 lakh in 2023-24 to 20.79 lakh in 2025-26. Diagnostic tests increased by 56.14%, from 7.98 crore to 12.47 crore during the same period. These figures reflected the government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in public hospitals, he said.

The government had taken the issue of low attendance seriously and initiated disciplinary action against erring staff. As part of these measures, 51 senior doctors who had remained absent for prolonged periods were dismissed, he added.

With growing public confidence in government hospitals, patient footfall has increased steadily. To meet the rising demand, the government established 168 additional outpatient counters in teaching hospitals over the past two years, Mr. Yadav said.

Criticising former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for alleging that the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva health insurance scheme had become ineffective under the present government, the Minister asserted that the number of beneficiaries had increased and cited official data to support the claim.

Outlining future priorities, Mr. Yadav said the government would focus on early disease detection, preventive healthcare and reducing disease burden through timely intervention. As part of these efforts, the Sanjeevani Scheme is proposed to be launched across the State in August.

The government also plans to improve the standards of medical education, enhance the national standing of medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh, strengthen measures to address rare diseases and expand digital health services to bridge gaps between urban and rural healthcare, he added.
