We may all have heard of sepsis, but not many may be aware of, and understand what paediatric sepsis, or sepsis in children is.
Paediatric sepsis is a condition that can affect children from the time of their birth until they are 18 years old,, with the highest risks and mortality rates occurring in children under the age of five. It results in significant physiological responses to an infection, causing dysfunction in multiple organs and tissues. This can result in septic shock, significantly increasing chances of death.
