Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday called upon cadres to step up preparations for the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana and urging them to intensify outreach efforts and position the party as an alternative to the ruling Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

On his visit to Hyderabad on Sunday, Mr. Nabin addressed a booth pramukh sammelan in Nampally and also virtually inaugurated nine district offices from Rangareddy rural party office. Addressing the sammelan, Mr. Nabin wanted cadres to prepare for a ‘new struggle’ based on service, sacrifice and commitment rather than power and privilege. Stressing the importance of organisational strength, he said the BJP’s success depended on its booth-level workers and reiterated the party slogan, ’booth jita toh chunav jitaâ’ (Win the booth, win the election).

Greater Hyderabad and municipal elections are approaching, he said and added that only the BJP can bring real development. “We want politics of development, not politics of dynasty and corruption,” he said.

Mr. Nabin paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, martyrs of the Telangana Statehood movement and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj. Linking their vision to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, he said the BJP had stood with Telangana since its inception and rejected criticism that the party was an outsider in the State. He noted that one of the BJP’s two Lok Sabha members elected in 1984 was from Telangana.

Launching a sharp attack on Congress and the BRS, Mr. Nabin accused them of corruption, dynasty politics and governance failures. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil promises made to the youth, particularly on employment, and charged both Congress and BRS with pursuing vote-bank politics through their relationship with the AIMIM.

Claiming that only a Modi-led BJP government could realise Telangana’s aspirations, he said the State would witness a political transformation similar to the BJP’s rise in West Bengal. He urged party workers to take the BJP’s message to every household and mobilise support across villages and urban neighbourhoods.

Highlighting the Centre’s welfare initiatives, Mr. Nabin said programmes such as Ayushman Bharat, PM SVANidhi, housing schemes, household tap-water connections and LPG distribution had improved the lives of millions. He also cited projects such as the Uppal elevated corridor, MMTS Phase-II and the Kazipet rail manufacturing unit as evidence of the Union government’s commitment to Telangana.

State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao also addressed the gathering, dismissing opposition claims linking the BJP’s electoral gains elsewhere to voter identification measures. He accused Congress, BRS and AIMIM of spreading misinformation and asserted that ‘Nation First’ remained the BJP’s guiding principle. Alleging that rival parties were relying on illegal Rohingya voters, he appealed to people to strengthen the BJP and replicate its recent Lok Sabha performance in the forthcoming municipal elections.

The sammelan, attended by hundreds of booth-level leaders and workers, highlighted the BJP’s focus on grassroots mobilisation as it gears up for the next round of local body polls in Hyderabad and across Telangana.

Earlier, Mr. Nabin was accorded a rousing welcome at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad by Mr. Ramchander Rao, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, MPs D.K. Aruna, Eatela Rajender, Konda Vishveshwar Reddy, D. Arvind and K. Laxman, and others.

Mr. Nabin later inaugurated nine new district party offices in Rangareddy Rural, Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Medak, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool. Describing them as ‘Sankalp Kendras’ and ‘Seva Kendras’, he said they would strengthen the party’s grassroots connect.
