The Labour Department has initiated action against 110 establishments across Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts for failing to grant a holiday or provide statutory benefits to workers on Labour Day (May 1) on Friday.
According to a press note, labour inspectors, led by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (Enforcement), conducted surprise checks at 153 establishments across the districts and violations were detected in 110 of them. The inspections revealed that the commercial establishments had denied holiday to workers on the day and had neither paid double wages nor granted compensatory leave.
