As Karnataka moves to a new Excise regime, price of certain ‘strong’ liquor is set to become dearer as Excise duty will now be levied on the alcohol in beverage (AIB). The low cost liquor, which brings in bulk of the Excise revenue to the government, and has high alcohol content, is set to see an increase.
From Excise duty levied on bulk litres, the duty will now be on the per millilitre of alcohol in the beverage that may contain alcohol value of 42%, 40%, 39%, and 38% alcohol content, which means the stronger the whiskey, gin, rum or brandy the costlier it will be.
