Former MLA of Nagercoil A. ‘Nanjil’ Murugesan died of a massive cardiac arrest on Wednesday. He was 59.

Murugesan, an AIADMK candidate, was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Nagercoil Assembly constituency, where he defeated DMK’s R. Mahesh by a margin of 6,727 votes in 2011.

After he was arrested in 2020 in connection with the assault on a 15-year-old girl from Nagercoil, who eloped with a 20-year-old boy, Murugesan was expelled from the AIADMK.
