Welcoming the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to close down 717 liquor shops run by the Tasmac near the shrines and educational institutions, the Tamil Nadu Federation of Anti-Liquor Movements (TAFALIM) has appealed to the Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to give jobs to the workers in these outlets in government offices depending on their qualification.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, convenor C. J. Rajan said that the government has certainly considered the long demands of the people and the NGOs to shut shop of the Tasmac, especially those open near schools and shrines.
The government, he wished, should go for a prohibition as the liquor had spoilt many youngsters. Several people were in need of rehabilitation. The de-addiction centres should be made more vibrant and ensure that the youngsters were able to come out of the addiction and remain productive in their professions.
There were many vacancies in the government departments. The workers’ who may lose jobs due to the closure of the Tasmac outlets, may be given openings in the existing vacancies depending on their educational qualification.
