The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management presented ‘Saarey’, a collection of sacred offerings, to Thathayagunta Gangamma temple here on Saturday, as a gesture of goodwill.
Amid the sound of traditional instruments and beating of cymbals, the TTD officials took out a colourful procession from Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple to Gangamma temple. Locals joined the procession by donning different guises and attire of mythological characters.
TTD’s Assistant Executive Officer (Tirumala Potu) Gundluru Muniratnam carried the ‘Saarey’ on his head and handed it over to Gangamma temple chairman N. Mahesh Yadav.
According to folklore, goddess Gangamma is considered as the younger sister of Sri Venkateswara. As such, the ‘Saarey’ is a gift from a brother to his younger sister on an auspicious occasion. The TTD has been continuing the practice for several years now.
Tirupati MLA Arani Srinivasulu, TTD Trust Board members Jyothula Nehru, Panabaka Lakshmi, Janaki Devi, TTD officials and employees took part in the procession in large numbers.
