The district leadership of the Congress has decided to undertake a comprehensive review of its performance in the recent Assembly elections, with a special focus on booth-level voting patterns across the district.

The decision was taken at a meeting of senior district Congress leaders, who resolved to closely examine election results from every polling booth to identify areas where the party lost votes and assess the factors that contributed to those setbacks. The review will also seek to determine whether local organisational weaknesses, campaign shortcomings, or shifting voter preferences played a role in the outcome.

As part of the exercise, all mandalam Congress committees have been directed to prepare detailed reports analysing booth-wise voting trends and submit them to the District Congress Committee. The reports are expected to include recommendations on political strategies, organisational reforms, and grassroots outreach initiatives required to strengthen the party’s position in the district.

From this week

Party leaders indicated that the evaluation process would begin this week itself. The review comes at a time when the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has delivered strong performances across the State but continues to face challenges in Thrissur, a district that has largely remained a stronghold of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

In the Assembly elections, the UDF managed to secure only four of the district’s 13 constituencies, including one seat won by the Kerala Congress.

Rural-urban divide

Political observers also point to a contrasting trend witnessed in local body elections. While the Thrissur Corporation witnessed a decisive swing in favour of the UDF, reflecting growing support in urban areas, the broader district political landscape continued to favour the LDF. The outcome highlighted a pronounced urban-rural divide, with the Congress performing relatively better in municipal and urban centres while the Left retained its influence in large parts of the rural hinterland.
