The annual Fruit Show, set to start on May 27, 2026 (Wednesday), will mark the conclusion of the summer festival season in Udhagamandalam, the Nilgiris district administration said.
As per the announcement, the 66th edition of the Fruit Show will be the last event of the festival this year, with the season officially closing on May 30.
This year, the season began later than usual, due to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections, and two events – the Spices Show and Vegetable Show — are not being conducted due to a lack of time, the officials stated. Apart from the Fruit Show, only the annual flower show, rose show and plantation crops show have been organised in Udhagamandalam and Coonoor with no events in the other major towns of Kotagiri and Gudalur.
Despite the late announcement of the dates for the festival events, there has been good tourist footfall in the district, said officials from the Tourism Department, with the Government Botanical Garden averaging around 15,000 visitors every day for the last one month.
Heavy tourist traffic was reported across Udhagamandalam and Coonoor towns over the weekend, with traffic snarls all through the Ooty-Coonoor Road up to Mettupalayam. The Nilgiris district police said that they expected the crowds to remain an issue that needed management till the first week of June, when schools reopen and tourist footfall decreases.
