Four days after a 23-year-old university student drowned in a water-filled pit here, an FIR has been registered against three of his friends who were present at the scene, following a complaint filed by the deceased’s family.
The FIR, registered on Sunday (April 12, 2026), names Krish, Himanshu and Vyas, who had accompanied Harshit Bhatt, a final-year Bachelor of Physical Education student at a private university, to an abandoned construction site in the Sector 126 police station area on April 8. Police said the four had gone on a picnic to the site after their examinations ended. The sections of law invoked in the FIR are yet to be disclosed by police.
A day later, the deceased’s mother, Deepmala, alleged that neither his friends nor the police had informed her of her son’s death. “When our neighbour called on Harshit’s phone, we were told he had met with an accident,” she added.

She told reporters that her son’s visit to the location appeared “suspicious” and questioned why his friends had taken him there. “If he had gone there to bathe, they should have stopped him. He was a good swimmer and was about to become a physical education teacher,” she stated.
Ms. Deepmala said the post-mortem report did not indicate alcohol consumption and claimed there were multiple injury marks on the body, raising suspicion of foul play. “I fear that he may have been murdered. I want a fair probe into my son’s death,” she said, adding that authorities should identify and secure such hazardous locations to prevent similar incidents.
None of the three accused has been summoned or arrested so far, and a police officer said the investigation into the case is under way.
