In the first week of May itself, rivers, water bodies and tanks have almost dried up in Srikakulam, Parvatipuram-Manyam and Vizianagaram districts due to the unprecedented heat, with temperatures crossing 45°Celsius at many places in the North Andhra. Due to the impact of summer, water levels in major rivers like Vamsadhara and Nagavali have been reduced to a mere trickle. While tanks have become nearly empty.
According to the irrigation department’s data, only 0.98 TMC of water is available in the Thotapalli barrage in Parvathipuram-Manyam district, with the present water level at 38.89%.
