Taking suo motu cognisance of a report on hanging glacier risks, the tribunal said it indicated violations of the Environment (Protection) Act and raised concerns over compliance with environmental norms

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a response from the Centre and others regarding the danger that hanging glaciers pose on the mountain slopes of central Himalaya.

The green body was hearing a matter in which it had taken suo motu cognisance of a newspaper report citing a study which flagged the environmental concern.
